Friulian Language
On my choice of Friulian
Friulian is the language traditionally spoken by the inhabitants of Friuli. There are several related and mutually intelligible variations of Friulian. The Friulian used in my translations is the Friulian spoken in Casarsa and surrounding towns and villages. It is much the same as the Friulian used by Pierpaolo Pasolini in his early dramatic and poetic works.
Friulian is the language of my childhood, the language I spoke with my parents and brothers and friends in my hometown in the northeastern region of Italy known as Friuli. It is still my preferred language of conversation with my brothers and Friulian-speaking friends.
